Despite its small population, Iceland has achieved the most global success in women’s rights, an issue that all countries struggle with today. What makes Iceland particular is the public's emphasis on women’s rights. While the general well-being of half the population of a country should be something all governments should prioritize, it is rarely the case. Vera Jonsdottir is an advocate for women’s rights and says that she owes her views on gender equality to her upbringing in Iceland.
In her talk, Vera outlines the strides Iceland has made and how the rest of the world can follow in its footsteps. Vera was born in Iceland and lived in Reykjavík until she moved to Paris in the fall of 2017 where she is double majoring in History, Law & Society and International & Comparative Politics at The American University of Paris. Vera is a big advocate for women’s rights and says that she owes her views on gender equality to her upbringing in Iceland. She will be speaking about Icelandic women and how the world can learn from the country's success and achievements in gender equality. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
